Does Distance Energy Healing Actually Work? What to Expect from a Remote Session
It’s the first question almost everyone asks, usually in a slightly embarrassed voice: “But does it work if you’re not in the room?” It’s a fair question, and you deserve an honest answer, not a sales pitch. Below you’ll find how remote healing is understood to work, the surprisingly long history of healing at a distance across world traditions, what scientific studies have and haven’t found, and exactly what happens in a remote session with Steanie, so you can decide from a calm place.
The short answer
People in almost every culture have practised healing across distance for thousands of years, and many clients report real shifts: deeper sleep, lighter mood, release of emotions they’d been holding, and clarity about what to do next. Scientific research is mixed and still developing, which we’ll show you honestly below. Distance energy healing is best understood as spiritual support that works alongside, never instead of, medical and psychological care.
Healing at a distance is one of the oldest practices on earth
Christianity: “Just say the word.” One of the best-known healing stories in the Gospels (Matthew 8:5–13) involves no touch at all. A Roman centurion asks Jesus to heal his servant at home, saying he isn’t worthy for Jesus to come under his roof, “just say the word, and my servant will be healed.” The servant is healed at that hour, miles away. Christian prayer for the sick, including prayer chains and intercessory prayer, carries this tradition forward to this day.
Islam: the prayer made in someone’s absence. A hadith in Sahih Muslim teaches that when you pray for a brother or sister who is not present, an angel responds, “And for you the same.” A prayer for someone who isn’t there was considered especially sincere, because it brings the one praying no praise.
Reiki: a symbol made for distance. Reiki was developed in Japan by Mikao Usui in the early 1920s. From its earliest teaching, the second level of Reiki included a specific symbol for sending healing across distance and time, known as Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen, often translated as “the origin of the heart is the right thought.” Distance work was never an add-on; it was built into the system from the start.
Qigong: external qi. In Chinese medicine, qi is the vital energy that flows through all living things. Qigong masters trained for years to project wai qi, “external qi”, to support another person’s energy, sometimes without touching them at all. The idea that energy can be directed with intention, not only with hands, is centuries old in China.
Hinduism: sankalpa. In Hindu practice, a sankalpa is a sacred, focused intention, often stated with a person’s full name, family line and place, before a prayer or ritual is offered on their behalf, wherever they are in the world.
The pattern across all of these is the same: a clear intention, a specific person named, and focused attention. That’s exactly why we ask for your full name and date of birth before a remote session.
What research says, honestly
Scientists have studied distant healing and intercessory prayer for decades, with mixed results:
- A widely cited 2000 review in the Annals of Internal Medicine (Astin and colleagues) looked at 23 trials of distant healing and found that more than half showed some positive effect, but noted serious problems in how many of the studies were designed, and called for better research.
- One of the largest studies, the 2006 STEP trial on cardiac surgery patients, found no benefit from intercessory prayer by strangers on recovery after surgery.
- Research consistently shows that relaxation, feeling cared for and deep rest can support wellbeing, and many people experience exactly that during and after a remote session.
So we won’t tell you science has “proven” distance healing. What we can tell you is what thousands of years of tradition describe, what our clients report, and what to expect.
What actually happens in a remote session with Steanie
- You book and share a few details: your full name, date of birth and what’s on your heart. No call or video is needed.
- Steanie connects with your energy remotely at the scheduled time, using intention and focused attention, the same principle all the traditions above rely on.
- The session work: depending on what you booked, reading your energy field and chakras, releasing heaviness or old emotions, or strengthening protection.
- You receive a written report describing what came through, what was worked on, and what she recommends next.

What people commonly feel
- Warmth, tingling or heaviness in the body during the session time
- Deep tiredness or very sound sleep that night
- Waves of emotion, sometimes tears, a day or two later as old feelings release
- A lighter, calmer, clearer feeling over the following days
Some people feel nothing during the session and notice changes afterwards. Both are normal.
How to get the most from a remote session
- Rest during the session time if you can: lie down somewhere quiet, phone off.
- Drink water and keep the evening gentle.
- Write down any dreams, memories or feelings that surface in the next three days.
- Read your report slowly, and act on one recommendation rather than all of them at once.
Myths vs facts
- Myth: you have to believe in it for it to work. Traditions differ here. Openness helps you relax and notice what shifts, but you don’t need to adopt any belief system.
- Myth: remote is a weaker version of in-person. Every tradition above treats distance work as complete in itself.
- Myth: it’s against my faith. Healing prayer at a distance exists within Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Hinduism. Our work is all-faith and supports your own path.
